On Sunday, Jan 6th, the Gottschee 98's organized an in-house Futsal Tournament for the '98, '97, and '96 age groups. Participation and support from within the club was excellent as an eight team field competed in two groups for a chance to play in the final. The '98 group appropriately named Liverpool and captained by Kevin Lozada held off some stiff competition to be crowned futsal champions of the club. The team also included stellar play from Brian, Matt D, Jorge, Danny and Benji. Much thanks to the Christ the King HS Boys, 97 Pre Academy Boys, and Ovid and Subotic's 16's for their participation in what turned out to be a fun and fast futsal challenge for anyone on hand.
The 98s also hosted a BWG Adult Futsal Challenge at the same venue. The games were also played at a feverish pace with the boys from Duffy's Floor Service clearly having the technical advantage over all. However, it was Glenn Whelan's entry of Gottschee alumni which proved to have the right combination of speed, smarts, and youth to dethrone the former champions. Glenn attributed the victory to the skills and experience they all learned at the Martin Luther King Gottschee Futsal Tournaments of past years. Again, additional thanks to the Mineola Portuguese, Monaghan Boys, Team Uruguay, Team Grenada, Team Mexico, and Uniondale Leeds for an excellent and entertaining outing.
Thank you for the support once again.
